Cultivation

Plants of the genus Lobularia are grown in the open ground and used in all kinds of flower beds - in borders, flower beds, etc. These are undemanding plants they are suitable for any permeable neutral or slightly alkaline soil. They are planted on a permanent landing site in small groups, at a distance of 15-20 cm from each other. When planting, it is recommended to apply organic fertilizers at the rate of 4-5 kg /m2. During the growing season, top dressing is carried out, especially after pruning faded shoots, with mineral complex fertilizers simultaneously with watering.

Location

Lobularia is light-loving, so the best place is in the open sun.

Temperature

Plants are relatively resistant to low air temperatures. Only severe prolonged cold weather can damage them.

Watering

Watering is only required during periods of prolonged drought.

Care

Pruning the bushes encourages the growth of new shoots, and thus flowering lasts for a long time.

Reproduction

Seeds are sown in spring in the ground or in autumn in containers filled with a substrate that consists of 2/3 of peat and 1/3 of fertile land, without adding fertilizers. Seedlings with a lump of earth are planted on a permanent planting site in May. The temperature for growing seedlings should be at least 12-13 °C.

Diseases

Root rotting causes Pythium ultimum, especially if the ground is heavy and drainage is poor. This can be prevented by taking care of suitable soil. Plant wilting is associated with Pellicularia filamentosa. The soil should be treated with fungicides. The cause of white rust is Albugo Candida; the affected plants are then removed. Of the pests, only the caterpillars of some butterflies that eat plants, which leads to their death, are dangerous-chemical treatment with appropriate insecticides is recommended.

Acquisition

Lobularia is purchased in horticultural centers and nurseries. Buy compact and healthy seedlings.
